About Us
Matthew and I often reflect on how far we've come in the time we've been together - the past three years have been a wonderful time of growth for both of us. When we met I was in graduate school at CU and Matthew was just about to start at Crocs. I was taking a couple of summer classes and he was finishing up with school as well. We connected on many levels and had a lot of fun getting to know one another during that first, carefree summer.
Things changed substantially when I completed my MA program and moved to Seattle. Following a promotion at work, Matthew decided to stay in Boulder and take advantage of the many opportunities his new role afforded him. It was difficult for us to make the decision to be apart, but it helped us grow closer in many ways. A few months after moving away I was back in Colorado, visiting for Thanksgiving, when he surprised me by proposing during a romantic weekend in the mountains. I was the last to know that he'd been planning any of it, and could not have been more excited.
In July of last year, Matthew felt the time had come to leave Crocs and move up to the Pacific Northwest to join me. Seattle is an amazing, exciting place to live and I know that we both feel fortunate to have settled in so well. I work for a nonprofit global public health organization and really enjoy my job (though it is certainly a departure from comparative literature!); Matthew has taken a business he started in Colorado from a side project to a real venue for his love of graphic and web design.
We live in the lovely Queen Anne neighborhood (just rated the top neighborhood by Seattle magazine, incidentally) and enjoy the relative peace & quiet, stunning views, and the neighborhood's close proximity to all that we love about downtown Seattle as well. Matthew likes being close to Canada and all his friends from the UVic days. I like the moody weather and abundance of tea shops.
We got married on June 7th, 2008, at the Denver Botanic Gardens, joined by close family. It rained on several of the days prior to the wedding and everything in the gardens that morning was correspondingly fresh and in bloom, not to mention perfectly sunny and cool. It was an absolutely happy, amazing day for us - we couldn't have imagined a nicer experience.
Matthew and I are grateful to have found one another, consider ourselves fortunate to have such dear friends and family, and look forward to all that the future will bring for us.
